Interactive multimedia, more commonly referred to as video games, comprises an industry with over $11 billion in sales annually in the United States. Yet, in spite of Florida's many positive attributes, Florida has only a handful of development studios presently residing here.
Make no mistake about it, computer and video game development is a paragon example of the type of high tech industry that Florida needs and must aggressively pursue. Games-Florida was created to help shepherd and guide that process, focus resources and individuals, and to help make Florida one of the leaders in this industry.
It is the mission of Games-Florida to develop new studios in the state of Florida and to induce existing studios to relocate to Florida. Games-Florida has several specific projects planned to assist in this process including outreach programs at all major game developer events to promote Florida to game developers, in-state events to raise awareness in the political and financial community of Florida about the importance of this industry to the future of our state and the creation of game development incubators to support and enhance the ability of start up developers to remain in Florida, rather than being required to relocate elsewhere to pursue their career goals.
