Our mission is the development of an innovation-based economy through the creation of high skill, high wage jobs in key industries that are driving global commerce. EDC offers the BusinessLINC mentor/protégé program, manages the Technology Business Incubator located in the Florida Atlantic University Research & Development Park and Incubate Miami in Miami's downtown business district, and produces two major conferences each year to provide increased visibility for young companies. EDC also participates in specific statewide programs that enhance the creation and development of science and technology companies.
Florida's premier structured angel investment group, as well as the Florida Institute for Commercialization of Public Research, a statewide initiative to create new companies based on publicly funded research. As a clearinghouse for entrepreneurial activity, EDC engages with local business leaders, investors, colleges and universities, government entities, and other public and private groups that share a commitment to Florida’s economic vitality.
The Institute facilitates new venture creation through commercially-viable technologies in major industries that are driving the global economy, including clean energy, life science, information technology, aviation and aerospace, homeland security/defense, and other emerging sectors. The Institute has also identified potential management candidates and angel and venture capital investors throughout the US who have an interest in Florida, and works to match commercially viable technologies with management talent and capital. EDC also maintains close relationships with other angel and venture capital investor groups throughout the region, ensuring that South Florida companies gain the visibility they need to raise funds.
